Top 10 Vietnamese Money Launderers in 2009

Pham Nhat Vuong, Member of the Board of Directors of Vincom (VIC) and Vinpearland (VPL), with stock assets worth 9,099 billion dong, is now considered the richest stock millionaire in 2009, according to Tien Phong news.

The 41-year old businessman is now also the Chairman of Ukraine’s Technocom Group and Chairman of the Vietnamese Overseas Businessmen Association.

Vuong was ranked the second in the 2008’s list of the top 10 Vietnamese stock millionaires and he stayed in second position until recently, when Doan Nguyen Duc, who was number one, lost 4 trillion dong in assets and fell to second.

Doan Nguyen Duc, Chairman of Hoang Anh-Gia Lai Group, holds a volume of shares worth 8,725 billion dong. Duc also led the list of the top 10 Vietnamese stock millionaires in 2008. Duc became a dollar billionaire when his shares were worthmore than 16 trillion dong in March 2008 (16 trillion dong was then equal to one billion dollars).

Though Duc has become ‘poorer’ than previously, he still believes that a series of projects now under implementation will soon add his name back to the list of the world’s billionaires.

The third position has fallen to Dang Thanh Tam, Chairman of the Saigon Investment Group and the richest person on the stock market in 2007. Tam is now holding sharesworth over 4,300 billion dong.

Chairman of the Hoa Phat Group Tran Dinh Long is now in fourth position with HPG shares worth 2,700 billion dong. The fifth is held by Chairman of Hoa Sen Group Le Phuoc Vu, who is holding shares worth nearly 1,050 billion dong.

The sixth position belongs to Truong Thi Le Khanh, Chairwoman and General Director of Vinh Hoan Company, who has 988 billion dong worth of stocks. Khanh has become the richest woman in the stock market, richer than many other big names such as Dang Thi Hoang Yen, Chairwoman of Tan Tao Group, Dang Thi Hoang Phuong (sister of Dang Thanh Tam), Pham Thu Huong (wife of Dang Nhat Vuong).

Nguyen Duy Hung, Chairman of the Saigon Securities Incorporated (SSI), the biggestsecurities company now, ranks the seventh with 14 million shares in SSI worth nearly 950 billion dong.

Truong Gia Binh, the richest person on the stock market in 2006 and Chairman of the FPT Group, has stocks worth 835 billion dong and ranks eighth.

The ninth and tenth stock market millionaires are Nguyen Chinh Nghia, who has stocks worth 750 billion dong, and Chairman of Nam Viet Seafood Corporation, who has 452 billion dong.

There is no change with the first four positions in the 2009 list of top stock millionaires in comparison with 2008.

There are 100 people who have the stock assets worth 100 billion dong and higher. The top 10 richest people have assets accounting for 50 percent of all shares’ value, estimated at 27 trillion dong.
